Building Financial Expertise to Serve the Military Community
Military and veteran families navigate financial systems unlike those faced by most Americans. Military compensation, tax rules, retirement systems, disability and survivor benefits, education benefits, frequent transitions, and other aspects of military life create both opportunities and complexities.
TMFRO believes the professionals serving these families should understand those systems. We strengthen the knowledge, collaboration, and professional communities that help military members, veterans, and their families receive better-informed financial guidance.
The TMFRO Mission
The Military Financial Readiness Objective advances the financial well-being of military members, veterans, and their families through three complementary objectives:
Educate financial professionals in the specialized benefits, financial systems, and planning issues affecting military and veteran families.
Connect military and veteran families with financial professionals who have demonstrated relevant expertise and a commitment to serving the military community.
Collaborate by creating collegial professional communities where financial professionals can share knowledge, ask questions, seek mentorship, and learn across disciplines.
Why TMFRO Exists
TMFRO was founded in 2020 around a simple idea: military and veteran families deserve financial professionals who understand the financial realities of military service.
No single profession has all of the expertise these families may need. Financial advisors, planners, coaches, counselors, therapists, tax professionals, and other specialists each bring different knowledge to the table. TMFRO works to strengthen that expertise and create connections across professional disciplines.
Today, that work includes specialized professional education through the Military Qualified Financial Planner (MQFP®) program and support for professional communities including the Military Financial Advisors Association (MFAA), Military Tax Experts Alliance (MTEA), and the Military Financial Professionals Community of Practice.
The result is a growing network of professionals better equipped to serve those who serve.
